Why not just paste my PDF into ChatGPT?
You can draft cards with a chatbot. GuruOwl adds a dedicated PDF workflow with generation estimates, source-page references, card editing and .apkg export. Review the output whichever tool you use.
How accurate are the generated cards?
AI-generated cards can omit or misread source material. Review each card against the PDF, check important facts, and edit before studying or exporting. Expert adds AI-assisted checks; it does not guarantee accuracy.
Can it make image-occlusion cards from my diagrams?
Yes — on the Expert tier. GuruOwl finds the labeled diagrams in your PDF (anatomy plates, schematics) and turns each into an image-occlusion card: the figure with its printed labels masked, so you actively recall them. Expert also adds mechanism / clinical / high-yield detail to every card. Pick it on the generate panel — it costs 3 credits per page versus 1 for Standard.
What about scanned PDFs?
Web text-card generation requires a selectable text layer. For image-only scans, run OCR in a scanner or PDF editor and upload the searchable PDF. Creating an account does not unlock full-document OCR.
Can I trust the export with my Anki workflow?
The .apkg comes out of a known-good Anki Desktop template — same SQLite schema Anki ships — so import is a one-click drop. The deck name matches your file name; you can rename in Anki afterwards.
