Guru App Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

This Privacy Policy explains how Rainverse LLC (Wyoming, United States) handles personal data in the Guru iOS app and related mobile services.

2. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use the app, we may collect or process the following categories of information.

App identity and device data

anonymous app installation identifiers and session tokens;
device type, operating system version, app version, build number, locale, and basic diagnostics;
app usage and interaction events, feature-flag assignments, and related analytics identifiers;
security, abuse-prevention, and server logs.

Imported and created content

PDF files, book metadata, pages, highlights, annotations, notes, and generated flashcards;
Anki import files such as .apkg and .colpkg, including decks, notes, card templates, scheduling metadata, and media contained in those files;
CSV or Anki export metadata when you choose to export content.

Some content may remain only on your device. Content is sent to our servers only when needed for features you request, such as AI generation, cloud processing, credit accounting, support diagnostics, or synchronization features that may be added later.

Study content backups

If you choose to back up your decks, the app creates a backup archive containing your decks, notes, card templates, review history, and any media files those decks reference, and uploads it to our servers so you can restore it after reinstalling or on another device.

Backups are created only when you start one. We do not upload backups automatically without your action.
A backup is stored until you delete it or delete your account. We do not expire backups on a schedule.
You can see your backups and delete any of them in the app at Settings → Backups. Deleting a backup removes the stored archive.
Deleting your account deletes your backups along with the rest of your account data.
Backups are private to your account. We do not make them available to other users.

AI request data

When you use AI features, we may process selected text, page excerpts, images, highlights, prompts, generated notes, generated cards, template settings, model selections, and usage metadata needed to complete the request.

Purchases, subscriptions, and credits

App Store purchase status, product identifiers, entitlement status, expiration dates, and transaction-related metadata;
RevenueCat subscriber identifiers and entitlement records;
credit balances, credit grants, credit consumption records, and related audit metadata.

We do not receive or store your full payment card number. Payment processing is handled by Apple and related payment infrastructure.

Support communications

If you contact us, we may process your email address, messages, screenshots, logs, and other details you choose to provide.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

provide app features, including reading, annotation, importing, reviewing, exporting, and AI generation;
manage subscriptions, entitlements, trials, purchases, restoration, and credits;
generate notes and flashcards when you request it;
maintain security, prevent abuse, debug problems, and improve reliability;
respond to support requests;
comply with legal, tax, accounting, and App Store obligations.

4. AI Processing

AI features require processing the content you select or submit. This may include sending relevant excerpts, prompts, images, or document-derived content to model providers or infrastructure partners acting as processors or service providers.

Do not submit content that you do not have permission to process or that contains sensitive information unless you understand and accept this processing.

We may share information with service providers that help us operate the app, including:

Apple App Store and StoreKit for purchases and subscriptions;
RevenueCat for subscription entitlement and purchase-status management;
PostHog for product analytics, feature flags, and app reliability monitoring;
cloud hosting, database, storage, and server infrastructure providers;
AI model and AI infrastructure providers used to generate requested output;
analytics, diagnostics, monitoring, and anti-abuse providers;
professional advisers or authorities where legally required.

We do not sell personal data for money.

6. Tracking and Advertising

Guru is not designed around third-party advertising. If we use analytics or diagnostics, we use them to understand app reliability, usage, and product quality. If any feature requires Apple App Tracking Transparency permission, we will request permission through the system prompt before tracking as defined by Apple.

7. Data Retention

We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, including security, billing, accounting, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and service operation.

Imported files and generated content may be stored on your device, on our servers, or both depending on the feature used. You can delete local content in the app where supported. You may also contact us to request deletion of server-side data associated with your app identity or account.

Backup archives you create are kept until you delete them in the app or delete your account. They are not deleted on a schedule.

8. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal data.

To make a privacy request, contact hello@guruowl.com. We may need information to verify and locate the relevant app identity, purchase, or account records.

If you have an account, you can permanently request deletion directly in the app at Settings → Account → Delete Account. The app asks for confirmation before sending the deletion request. This removes the account and associated server-side account data, subject to limited retention required for security, billing, accounting, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. Export any content you want to keep before deleting your account.
